Hi,

LOOKING FOR DRUMMER and KEYS

I am forming a band to play R&B (old school and new) with a mix of blues, classic rock, and jazz. Rehearsals in midtown NYC and plan to gig in & around NYC. I have a fantastic vocalist and a solid bassist. I play guitar.

If you know of versatile, reliable drummers or keyboard players who might be interested, please pass along my contact info. Email is phil_g_reeves@yahoo.com

Thanks,
Phil
Friends:
I am creating a website for my Hunter Integrated Media Arts MFA thesis project, "Sounds Like Staten Island" (SLSI). It is going to be online soon. The site is devoted to sounds and audio experiences in Staten Island's built and natural environs. One of the site's most exciting features will be it's radio programming. This is the kind of content I hope to feature:

Natural and Human-Made Environmental Sounds. Here are some examples:
• Recordings of local birds, other animals, and insects
• Recordings of the Staten Island commuting experience (bus, SIRT, ferry, ferry terminal, etc.)
• Recordings of Staten Island's waterfront sounds (fog horns, ship bells, passing container ships, etc.)
• Recordings done in Staten Island's Blue Belt and Greenbelt
• Recordings of local construction and destruction on Staten Island (jack hammer? garbage truck? glass breaking? hammering a nail?) I'm calling this the "de(con)struction zone" because destruction and construction can often be mistaken for their opposite, meaning they may not be opposites at all; they may be the same thing!
• Recordings of local traffic sounds (sirens, bridge hum, horn honking, etc.)
• Recordings of the sounds of activities that provide care, comfort, love and sympathy

Local Cultural Sounds
I'm also very interested in broadcasting (with copyright clearances and permissions given):
• Recordings from SI's cultural spaces, performance spaces, social spaces and unusual locations around the island (Alice Austen House? An Art Lab opening? The Bone Yard? Salt Mountain? The Bayonne Bridge? The sounds at ETG Cafe? The Muddy Cup? Buddhist Vihara? The sounds of African drumming? Bagpipes?
• Recordings of spoken word and poetry readings
• Recordings of storytellers
• Interviews and oral histories: family histories, community histories, arts and cultural interviews, etc.

Local Experimental Sounds
I also hope to get submissions of sound performances that challenge notions of what constitutes music—or what constitutes noise! If you are doing musical investigations that question mainstream norms, push the perceptual and conceptual edges, and challenge accepted notions of what is or is not music, I'd love to hear from you. The Internet is already loaded with sites devoted to every type of music genre. The "Sounds Li ke Staten Island" site will focus narrowly on local Staten Islanders whose sound practices stand outside of mainstream music and performance. Are you composing on found objects? Playing on plastic toys? I want to hear from you! Are you using vegetables as instruments? Doing improvised performances? Please contact me!

I am a crooner of classic American pop songs from the 1920's/30's. I've performed at various venues including The Rainbow Room, The United Nations, The Algonquin Hotel, Swing 46 and many others. I'm seeking to form a collaboration with a pianist for paid gigs. I have been invited to sing at an even on Aug. 25 in lower midtown and I'm seeking an accompanist for that . The organizer can pay $100 for the 30 set. If you are experience in classic American pop standards of the 1920's/30's and if you are interested in collaborating on this and future gigs, please contact me for more information.
Hi David,
I'd suggest that you contact Morrie Louden through this site. He is a bassist who regularly performs with a pianist/arranger, Barry Levitt. Barry specializes in American Standards & generally works with soloists doing that type of music. I don't have Barry's contact info, but my friend Morrie will.

Hi Lynne,

Please email me at phil_g_reeves@yahoo.com with more info about how often you rehearse, rehearsal location, and whether it's days/evenings/weekends. And how often you will be gigging. I know a couple guitarists who may be interested.

Have a great day,
Phil
