Biography

The guitar, and music in general have been a passion since 1968, when I was given my Grandfather's Gibson L-1 Archtop Acoustic, which I still cherish.

I'm a life long resident of the New Jersey / New York area, where I attended William Paterson University, studying Music and Business.

Freelance teaching, consulting, recording, producing, and audio / visual system design. are all skill sets. I love variety.

These skills allow me to work with, or consult for, a wide array of artists which include: George Benson, Pastor Andre Crouch, Al DiMeola, Stevie Wonder, Carmine Appice, Jimmy Vivino - The Tonight Show / Conan, Bernard "Pretty" Purdie, Nashville’s Brent Mason, Tito Puente Jr., The B-52's, Arlen Roth, Joe Satriani, Don Randi - The Wrecking Crew, Johnny A, The Vanilla Fudge, Robert Randolph - Family Band,  Gene Cornish & Eddie Brigati - The Rascals, Brad Whitford - Aerosmith,  Chris Parker, Ace Frehley - Kiss, Rob Paparozzi - BS&T, Blues Legend Hubert Sumlin, Lou Pallo - Les Paul Trio, Richie Cannata - Billy Joel, Bruce Springsteen, Steve Howe - Yes, and Les Paul.

My relationship with Les Paul is what I am most proud of. Les developed the Solidbody Electric Guitar, Multitrack Recording, and the foundations of modern music technology. He consulted with me often on new developments. We often worked closely at his historic home in Mahwah NJ.

Les also hired me to mix his Front of House sound at New York's Iridium Club, located in Times Square saying; "Steve, you gave me some of the best mixes ever". As a guitarist, I joined Les onstage several times.  He is truly missed.

Currently, I have been working with his son Rusty, in continuing the Les Paul Legacy.

Leon P. "Sealey2k" Sealey replied to Steve Lucas's discussion An Interesting Fender & Les Paul Story in the group On The Visual Side
"Fascinating piece of history, Steve. It's interesting to note how everything has it's appointed time and the possibilities of what could have been. Question: The material used to make the body of the 1930 prototype, is the same type…"

Bandleader & The Singer

Before a gig, the bandleader calls the female singer over to him and tells her...

"Tonight, when we do 'Night and Day', I want you to sing the second verse first, and then break into the bridge one bar earlier than usual, transpose the bridge up a minor third, but then back down again for the last three bars. Then, add a 5/4 bar going back into the FIRST chorus, singing on only off-beats. During the sax solo, go… Continue

An Interesting Fender & Les Paul Story

Les Paul began developing a prototype solid body electric guitar in the late 1930’s.

Joaquin Murphy brought Leo Fender and Paul Bigsby to Les Paul’s home in Southern California where they saw Les playing the prototype that he called the “Log”. This gets Fender interested in building guitars and Bigsby interested in building vibratos, among a few other…
