The legendary Joe Bataan performed “Gypsy Woman” with Steve Pouchie and Chembo Corniel at the New York Latin Music ‘Pionero’ Awards, held at Hostos College on October 23,2010. Other musicians included Adan Perez on keys, Solo Rodriguez on bass, Marco Arguinzoni on bongos, Diego Lopez on drums, Julio Botti on sax and Rail Navarrette on trombone. Vocalists singing with Joe included Yvonne Nitollano, Ralph Igartua, Mel Rodriguez, also Peter Quintero on timbales and Tito Gonzalez on percussion.
Other Honorees included Johnny Pacheco, Andy Gonzalez, Ray Santos, Andrea Brachfeld, Orlando Marin, Mike Amadeo, Justo Betancourt and of course “The King of Latin Soul” Joe Bataan. It was a wonderful evening with great performances by many of the other Honorees as well. The entire program with the artists accepting their awards, may soon be available on DVD.
